Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Walking with Fallen Heroes: Captain Edward Aloysius Blake

October 29, 2026 | 6.60 Miles Walked | 170 Honks

Today, we walked in honor of United States Air Force Captain Edward Aloysius Blake, age 29, of Long Beach, Mississippi, who lost his life on October 29, 1964, while serving our country during the early years of the Vietnam War.

Captain Blake served with the 1st Air Commando Squadron, 34th Tactical Group, 13th Air Force. He was a pilot flying the A-1E Skyraider, a propeller-driven attack aircraft used by the Air Force for missions that included close air support for ground troops. These aircraft and their crews played an important role in the dangerous work being carried out in Southeast Asia.

On October 29, 1964, Captain Blake and another pilot were killed when their A-1E Skyraider crashed while they were on their way to a gunnery range for training. Their mission ended in tragedy, taking the lives of two men who were serving their country.

Captain Blake was only 29 years old. His life, his service, and the future he should have had were taken far too soon.

His name is forever etched into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., where generations of Americans can come to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Captain Blake is also laid to rest at Southern Memorial Park in Biloxi, Mississippi, keeping his memory close to the home state he came from.

Today, we made sure his name was remembered here in Crossville, Tennessee.

A Morning Filled with Memories and Unexpected Blessings

Our walk began with a very special visit. Just before we reached Holiday Hills Lake, we had the opportunity to meet the wife of a Fallen Hero we had the honor of walking for previously. The request for that walk had come through a good family friend, and today was the first time we had the chance to meet her in person. It was a wonderful visit, and I was grateful for the opportunity to spend some time with her. Moments like these remind me that behind every Fallen Hero is a family with a story, memories, and a loved one who will never be forgotten.

As we were leaving the Holiday Hills area, we received another unexpected surprise. Six deer slowly crossed the road right in front of us! There was no traffic, so we were able to watch them make their way safely across. It was a beautiful sight and a wonderful moment to enjoy during our morning walk.

We then continued toward town and stopped at Veterans Memorial Park. While there, we took time to read the names of our Fallen Brothers inscribed on the Memorial Wall. Every name represents a life, a family, and a story that deserves to be remembered. I am honored to be able to stop there and pay my respects to those who gave everything for our freedom.

From the park, we headed down one of the side roads, where a local store owner came outside to talk with me. We had a great conversation about iwalk4them, the mission behind my walks, and the Hero I was honoring today. We even had the opportunity to take a photo together before I continued on my way.

As I continued walking along West Avenue, a lady stopped me who told me that she honks every time she sees us out walking! It was wonderful to hear that she has been supporting the mission along the way. I got to talk with her about iwalk4them and share the story of the Hero I was walking with today. It means so much to know that people recognize us, take the time to stop, and want to learn more about the Fallen Heroes we honor.

Just before reaching Tractor Supply, another special encounter took place. A Korean War and Vietnam War Veteran stopped to speak with me. We talked a little about what I do and why I walk in honor of our Fallen Heroes. He thanked me for what I was doing, and I truly appreciated the opportunity to speak with a fellow Veteran. It means a great deal when someone who has served our country takes the time to recognize this mission.

After these wonderful conversations and unexpected moments, we made our way back home.

Today’s Walk by the Numbers

🚢 Miles Walked: 6.60

πŸ“£ Honks Received: 170

Every mile walked, every honk heard, every wave, and every salute helps keep the memory of our Fallen Heroes alive. Each one is a reminder that their service and sacrifice have not been forgotten.

I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted as we made our way through the community today. Your support means more than you know. Thank you for taking a moment out of your day to help me honor Captain Blake.

I also want to give a special thank-you to Fallen Soldier SPC Jordan Neal for joining us today and helping honor this American Hero. Your presence and support are deeply appreciated.

Captain Blake gave his life while serving our country. He deserved to grow older, to make more memories, and to return home to the people who cared about him. Although his life was cut short, his name and sacrifice remain part of our nation’s history.

That is why I continue to walk. That is why I continue to share their stories. And that is why I will keep putting one foot in front of the other, honoring those who can no longer walk beside us.
