He retired from the United States Forest Service as a land use planner and was also a fighter pilot during World War II in the United States Air Force where he retired with the rank of Major. He was a charter member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, served as chief of the Fairfield Glade Fire Department for five years and was also a county commissioner for 14 years.

Mac and Jill are from California and I met them on one of my other walks one day. It was great having you here helping me honor this Hero. I also want to thank the guy who stopped along the road and got out of his car and took his hat off as we walked by. I don’t know your name but that was amazing and I can’t thank you enough. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping us honor this Fallen Hero.
