Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:
Army SGT Nicholas Ray Gibbs, Age 25 of Stokesdale, N.C.
KIA Dec. 6, 2006
SGT Gibbs was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, Giessen, Germany
He graduated from Northwest High School in 2000 and enlisted in the U. S. Army in 2003. Nick received his basic training at Ft. Benning, Georgia and was stationed in Germany for two years prior to being deployed to Iraq. He was an avid Duke basketball fan and enjoyed life to the fullest. Nick was a very caring and compassionate person who leaves behind many friends who will forever remember his presence in their lives.
It was a great honor to walk 6 miles with Army SGT Nicholas Ray Gibbs. We walked by Holiday Hills Lake and then made our way to town. We walked by the Military Museum and then made a stop in at the Veterans Memorial Park. We read some names on the memorial wall of our Fallen Brothers. We walked around the park a little and then headed north. The sky was beautiful as the sun was going down. It had turned dark by the time we made it home. The weather was perfect. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 190 honks. It was amazing. I also want to thank Marine SGT Ryan Isom for joining us on our walk today and helping us honor this hero.
Army SGT Nicholas Ray Gibbs will not be forgotten !
