He graduated from York High School in 2018 and immediately left for Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Station in entrance to the United States Navy. Blessed with such great intelligence, Jacob graduated from the United States Navy’s Nuclear Power Program. He served his country aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN71) deploying through the South China Sea.

This went on for a long time as Jacob continued to push through to pass his qualifications, but ultimately was sent to Captain’s Mast for 2 counts of article 92 for failure to qualify in a timely manner and dereliction of duties. Jacob served his awarded 45 days of restriction and continued to study in hopes of passing his BNEQ qualification. His last attempt left him at 97% complete but was still unsuccessful in passing.
Jacob took his life on December 5, 2022 after his last public “counseling” from another toxic chief who left Jacob feeling he had no other choice but to take his own life. Jacob sadly ended his life just hours later in his workspace while studying.

Suicide in the military with active duty members continues to be an epidemic and in our eyes no progress has been made in addressing the toxic culture that some commands exhibit. We are not the first family to experience this type of tragedy and certainly are not the last. We will continue to fight against and raise awareness in regard to toxic cultures within our nations military in hopes of making a difference to put and end to toxic leadership and environments.
It was a great honor to hike 2.16 Miles with Navy EMN3 Jacob Elliott Slocum. Our hike today was at Cascade Trail in Fairfield Glade, TN. This was our first walk of twenty two, to help bring awarness to Veteran Suicide. It was an amazing hike. We took 22 of our Fallen Heroes along with us on our hike today. I want to thank Candy and her friend Donna for joining us on this amazing hike. Their were breath taking views. It was so peaceful to hear the wind and to hear the rushing water of the water. It was a perfect start for this winter hiking event to bring awarness to Veteran Suicide.
