Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Marine CPL Jennifer M. Parcell, Age 20 of Bel Air, MD.
KIA Feb. 7, 2007
She was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 3, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan
Her Marine brother inspired her to become a US Marine after she graduated High School. Her first station after boot camp was Okinawa, Japan. As a PFC she deployed to Pakistan for earthquake relief. Her fellow Marines nicknamed her “the biggest little girl they had ever met.”
In 2006, at the age of 20, she deployed to Iraq and volunteered for the Lioness program, where female Marines searched local women during patrols. On Feb. 7, 2007, while on guard duty at a checkpoint in Barwanah, Anbar province, a female suicide bomber approached and detonated her explosives. Jennifer was severely wounded and died shortly after.
It was a great honor to walk 11 miles with Marine CPL Jennifer M. Parcell. We walked out on Northside Drive and worked our way over to the Obed River Park. It was nice walking by the water and feeling the breeze. We came out on 127 and worked our way over to the Crossville Centennial Park and enjoyed our walk through the park. We came back out to 127 and headed towards town. Our next stop was the Veterans Memorial Park where we read several names of our fallen brothers and the Memorial Wall. We then took West Ave and headed back towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 428 honks. It was amazing. I also want to thank Marine SGT Ryan Isom for joining us on our walk and helping us honor this hero.
Marine CPL Jennifer M. Parcell will not be forgotten !
