Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Navy Veteran George W. Long, Age 92 of Crossville, TN.
Died Feb. 17, 2019
George served as minister at the First Christian Church here in Crossville for 30 years. He assumed the role in 1989 and remained the preacher their till his passing.
A native of Bristol, Tennessee, and a graduate of Johnson Bible College, George had several ministries including Ft. Pierce, FL, at Southside Christian Church. He was also Director of Transportation for St. Lucie County Schools, retiring in 1988. George was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Randall.
I met George for the first time 37 years ago in 1989. I met George here in Crossville,TN. I was visiting my dad and step mother. We went to church and I met him here back then. Then George married Donna and I in August of 1995. He was a great man. We will never forget him.
It was a great honor to walk 6.26 Miles with Navy Veteran George W. Long. We walked my Holiday Hills Lake and then worked our way towards town. We made a stop by the First Christion Church and then we stopped in at the Veterans Memorial Park. We then made our way back to the house before the rain. We had a great walk. I got to remember a lot of great memories over the years. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved and saluted in helping me honor this hero. We had 339 honks today. I also want to thank Army PV2 Joshua Dommes for joining us and helping us honor this hero. It was amazing.
Navy Veteran George W. Long Will not be forgotten !
