Our walk today was dedicated in honor of:
Navy EO3 Dennis Wayne Allen, Age 20 of Milford, IL.
KIA Jul. 10, 1968
He served with the Public Works Operations, United States Naval Support Activity, United States Naval Forces Vietnam
EO3 Dennis W. Allen worked in the taxi service division for the Public Works section of Naval Support Activity in Da Nang, RVN. On the evening of July 10, 1968, EO3 Allen was on duty at the Da Nang Compound when a sentry, probably a Marine MP, accidently discharged his .45 pistol. The round reportedly hit the ground and ricocheted upward, striking Allen under the chin. He stumbled forward into the arms of the Marine when another round was discharged, hitting Allen a second time and fatally wounding him. A Navy investigation into the incident ruled it an accidental homicide.
Dennis is buried at Maple Grove Cemetery in Milford, IL.
It was a great honor to walk 8.44 miles with Navy EO3 Dennis Wayne Allen. We walked by Holiday Hills Lake and then made a stop by CCHS. Our next stop was the American Legion Post 163. We then walked Main street back into town where we stopped in at the Veterans Memorial Park. We read a few names on the Memorial Wall. We found a flag painted rock and left it for someone else to find. We then headed back towards the house. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted us in helping us honor this Fallen Hero. We had 383 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you. I also want to thank SPC Jonathan Bryant for helping us honor this hero today. It was amazing. Thank you !
avy EO3 Dennis Wayne Allen will not be forgotten !
