Today our walk was dedicated in honor of :
HONORING NAVY VETERAN VAUGHN ALAN O’SHANICK🇺🇸
Today, I had the honor of walking in memory of Navy Veteran Vaughn Alan O’Shanick, age 79, of Painted Post, New York, who passed away on September 1, 2026.
Vaughn was born September 7, 1946, in Corning, New York. He served our country as a U.S. Navy E-4, later serving in the Navy Reserve and the Pennsylvania National Guard.
After his military service, Vaughn continued serving others through his career with the U.S. Government. He worked as an accountant for more than 25 years at Bath VA National Cemetery and Woodlawn National Cemetery.
Vaughn lived a life filled with many things he enjoyed. He loved football, golf, baseball, traveling, cruises, card games, and drum corps. He was also involved with his church and enjoyed spending time with his family.
🇺🇸 TODAY’S WALK
Today, Vaughn and I walked 8.37 miles.
We started out by walking to Obed River Park, where we walked the paved trail. From there, we made our way into town to Veterans Memorial Park.
While there, we stopped at the Memorial Wall and read the names of some of our Fallen Brothers.
We also came across a painted flag rock. I picked it up and brought it home to place in our memorial area in Vaughn’s honor. 🇺🇸
But our journey wasn’t over yet.
After leaving Veterans Memorial Park, we stopped at Hardee’s, where we visited the Memorial Table honoring Veteran Richard Dubious.
We took a moment to honor Richard and remember his service before continuing our journey back toward home.
It is moments like these that remind me that this walk is about more than the miles. It is about remembering those who served, honoring their lives, and making sure their names and stories are never forgotten.
Along the way today, I want to sincerely thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted as we walked.
We received an incredible 435 HONKS today! 🇺🇸
Every honk, every wave, and every salute means so much. It lets us know that people are stopping for just a moment to remember a hero who gave something of himself for others.
I also want to give a very special thank-you to Fallen Hero Marine CPL Wyatt Hatcher, who joined us today and helped us honor Vaughn.
Today was 8.37 miles for Vaughn.
We visited our Veterans Memorial.
We remembered Fallen Brothers on the Memorial Wall.
We found a little painted flag rock to bring home in his honor.
We stopped to honor Veteran Richard Dubious at his Memorial Table.
And along the way, 435 people reminded us that these veterans are still remembered.
Vaughn Alan O’Shanick may no longer be with us, but his service, his life, and his memory will continue to live on.
