Today our walk was dedicated in honor of:

Army SSGT David P. Nowaczyk, Age 32 of Dyer, IN.
KIA Apr. 15, 2012 Operation Enduring Freedom

SSGT Nowaczyk was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, CO.

SSGT Nowaczyk died from wounds caused by an IED attack. This was his third deployment to Afghanistan.

Nowaczyk joined the Army in September 2005 and earned several medals, including two Bronze Star Medals that are awarded for bravery or merit.

We had a great 7.63 Mile walk today. We started out around 6am. Was a very brisk 36 degrees. We stopped and watched a couple of ducks swimming on Holiday Hills Lake. We then walked by Garrison Park as we headed up town to the War Memorial Park. After reading several names on the Memorial Wall we headed out East First Street. We made a stop and visited over 20 WWII Veterans in the Crossville City Cemetery. Just before we made it home we got to visit with a Vietnam Veteran and we got to share David’s story. I want to thank everyone who honked, waved, and saluted in helping me honor this hero today. We had 194 honks today. It was amazing. Thank you.

Army SSGT David P. Nowaczyk will not be forgotten !
